You Get To Have Your Life Back

The Moment Everything Changed for Me

There was a time in my life when I thought I understood pain; after 34 years of nursing in infectious disease, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, the operating room, and more charts than I could ever count. On paper, I knew pain. Though, when pain arrived in my body, I realized I had only known the medical half of the truth.

It started with an acute injury; a dramatic event in the life of a 21-year-old. I was challenged with chronic pain for two-decades before a surgical intervention was necessary. While a structural issue was eventually resolved, the chronic pain was not. That was the beginning of learning that pain doesn’t always disappear when the issues do. "We’re Built To Heal".

When the pain continued beyond 3 months, I brushed it off. And like so many people living with chronic pain…I pushed through.
That’s who I had always been: The strong one.
The capable one.
The one others rely on.
The one who doesn’t slow down.
The one who keeps going.

Until I couldn’t.

The pain grew louder.
More persistent.
More confusing.

And for the first time in my life I wasn’t the clinician in control. I was the person living inside a body I no longer trusted. I stretched, strengthened, rested, researched, consulted, and kept pushing. Yet something deeper was happening, something every chronic pain client needs to hear...pain isn’t just physical. Pain is protective, and the nervous system protects us long before we feel it.

What I Didn’t Know at the Time, And Needed To

For decades, I carried more than my nervous system could handle. I was a perfectionist with fierce independency, people pleasing, and in emotional overload. Pressure and stress mounted while I was in caregiving mode, and I expected myself to be the "strong one".

My body absorbed all of it. Until it couldn’t anymore. My pain wasn’t telling me I was damaged. My pain was telling me I was overwhelmed. That realization, the one I resisted the most, became the turning point of my life. Not because the pain magically disappeared, it was because the truth finally landed:

My body wasn’t fighting me. My body was protecting me, and it had been protecting me alone for far too long.

June solstice, new beginnings, hope

The June Solstice & Pain Recovery

June brings the longest day of the year, a turning point of light. The solstice is nature’s reminder that light returns. Energy returns. Possibility returns. Life returns, and that you will return, too.

For many people with chronic pain, the world shrinks long before they realize it. Plans fade.
Confidence fades. Movement fades. Joy fades. Identity fades. Not because they chose it, rather because the nervous system has been stuck in danger mode for months, years, or even decades. The solstice signifies that even after the longest season of darkness, light comes back. You come back.

Reclaiming My Life...One Moment at a Time

People assume “reclaiming your life” means bold decisions.

It doesn’t.

It starts with small, deeply meaningful moments, such as listening instead of pushing, making choices from safety instead of fear, allowing hope without demanding certainty, taking steps that don’t hurt to takeMy healing didn’t start with discipline. It started with honesty. The honesty to admit that I was tired of surviving, tired of bracing, and tired of carrying everything alone. I was feeling lost and not certain where to turn. And that moment, the moment I finally surrendered the constant pushing became the moment my nervous system began to soften.

What the Science Says and Why It Matters

Pain changes when the nervous system feels safe again.

Not when you try harder, force movement, fight the pain, push through, ignore your body
and pretend to be fine

Pain decreases when danger decreases. That means your pain can change. Your brain can rewire. Your nervous system can recalibrate. Your identity can return. Your life can expand again. "We’re Built To Heal" when the conditions support it.

Why I Created NeuU

I built NeuU because I’ve lived the fear, the shrinking, identity loss, exhaustion, the shame, anger, the hope that feels dangerous, and the grief. And then, slowly and steadily I returned to myself. It wasn't because of a stretch or a supplement. It was because my nervous system finally felt safe enough to soften. Now I help others do the same.

Your pain is real.

Your pain makes sense.

Your pain is not your identity.

Your pain is not your fault.

Your pain is not permanent.

You get to have your life back.

The Solstice Promise

Light Returns And So Do You

You don’t need to feel hopeful yet.
You don’t need to believe everything will change.
You don’t need to force anything.

You only need one gentle step toward safety.
One step back into yourself.
One step that doesn’t hurt to take.

This June is your reminder that you were never meant to live small.
You get to rise.
You get to heal.
You get to reclaim your life.

And as summer unfolds, I’ll be honouring these reminders in my own life, too.

Over the coming months, I’ll be stepping back more intentionally to make space for restoration, reflection, creativity, nature, laughter, and the slower moments that help us reconnect with ourselves again.

Because healing isn’t only about learning how to stop surviving.

Sometimes it’s about finally allowing yourself to live again.

And maybe this season is inviting you into some of that space, too.

We’re Built To Heal.

Sometimes the nervous system just needs help remembering how.
