A Healthy Ounce of Skepticism, Yet An Open Mind
Skepticism is a natural response when we encounter something new or unfamiliar—especially when it speaks to transformation and healing in ways we’ve never imagined. I’ve been there myself, standing at the crossroads of doubt and possibility, questioning whether it is worth the effort, the time, or even the emotional investment to explore something different. After all, when you’ve explored and fallen short repeatedly, the idea of “something new” can feel more like a burden than a blessing. Not to mention, a fear of appearing gullible, or silly, in the eyes of others.

An Undeniable Truth
Yet, through my own journey, I discovered an undeniable truth - there was far more to gain by attempting than there was to lose by staying skeptical. Today, my only regret is that I had not overcome this limiting decision earlier in life!
Skepticism provides comfort - it can feel like a shield, protecting us from disappointment. We tell ourselves, “If I don’t believe in it, I won’t be let down.” Skepticism is a safe space, one that requires no action, no risk, and no vulnerability. But here’s the thing - skepticism also keeps us stuck. It’s like living in a room with the curtains drawn, safe from the unknown but blind to the possibilities just outside.
For years, I lived in that space. I was skeptical of anything that sounded “too good to be true,” particularly when it came to offering what I felt were miraculous claims. I questioned the validity of new approaches, doubted the sincerity of those advocating them, and convinced myself that nothing could really work for me.

What If?
Yet, deep down, there was a whisper—a tiny, persistent voice asking, "What if"?
We are all given choice, yet in my opinion, far to often we do not exercise it appropriately. We are more concerned with what others mighty think, or say. And, skepticism stops feeling protective, and starts feeling limiting. For me, it was the realization that staying in the same place—physically, emotionally, and mentally—was more exhausting than the idea of trying something new. I asked myself a simple question - What’s the worst that could happen? The answer surprised me. At worst, I’d spend some time and energy on something that didn’t work. And at best? At best, I could find relief, transformation, and a new way of living.

Having An Open Mind
When I finally decided to step out of my comfort zone, it wasn’t with blind faith. I was still skeptical, yet willing to explore with an open mind. I had come to understand the importance of exploring with an open mind, through a friend. Having planted a seed in unfamiliar soil, my friend's doubt and hesitation stunted its growth. She abandoned the plot of soil, selling it to a new owner who, with an open mind and patience, planted the same seed. This time, the soil was tended with care and trust, and the seed thrived, yielding the most envied flower in the community.
So, with an open mind, I ventured into integrative Mind-Body practices and healing methods, and at first, the results were subtle—a moment of calm here, and a minor decrease in pain there. It wasn’t an instant fix, yet over time, those small moments added up to significant changes. I had no idea that even small, incremental changes in how I managed stress could have a lasting impact on my overall well-being!
What I gained wasn’t just physical relief. I gained a new perspective, a renewed sense of strength, and a deeper connection to myself. My skepticism didn’t vanish overnight, yet as I experienced real, tangible results, it began to fade. In its place grew a sense of hope and possibility.

The Real Risk of Staying Skeptical
Looking back, I realize that the real risk wasn’t in trying something new—it was in staying exactly where I was. Skepticism might feel safe, but it often comes at the cost of growth, transformation, and those large "life" possibilities. By stepping out of my comfort zone, I didn’t just prove my skepticism wrong; I proved to myself that I had personal power and was capable of change.
If you find yourself skeptical about taking the next step—whether it’s trying a new approach, pursuing a goal, or embracing a fresh perspective—I invite you to ask yourself the same question I asked myself - What’s the worst that could happen? The answer might surprise you. And the journey, however uncertain, might lead to gains you never imagined possible.
